About Us
Founded in 1919, The American Legion Auxiliary has nearly 1 million members from all walks of life. The Auxiliary administers hundreds of volunteer programs, gives tens of thousands of hours to its communities and to veterans, and raises millions of dollars to support its own programs, as well as other worthwhile charities familiar to Americans. It is all accomplished with volunteers.

The American Legion Auxiliary is the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization. Through its nearly 10,500 units located in every state and some foreign countries, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace. Along with The American Legion, it solidly stands behind America and her ideals.

Dorinda Resner
Unit 500 President
Speedway, Indiana
I joined the American Legion Auxiliary, Speedway Unit 500 in 2007.  I qualified for membership under my Dad, Daniel Wallpe, an Army Veteran who is a PUFL Legion member.  I quickly became active in the activities and volunteer opportunities the Unit had to offer, including volunteering to help with the monthly breakfasts and dinners we used to do and helping out at the Post with activities as well.  I also had joined the American Legion Riders and was active with the Chapter at Post 500 for several years, holding the office of Treasurer for a few years.

I quickly found a passion for helping our Veterans and a deep sense of patriotism and renewed love for America.  My first term as President was 2009-10 and then also served as President 2011-12 and 2012-13.  I also served a couple of recent years as Parliamentarian.  Committee chairs held have been Field Service/Service to Veterans, Finance, Constitution and Bylaws, Indiana Veterans Home and Past Presidents Parley.

I currently serve as theUnit 500 President (2018-19) as well as 11th District President (for a 2nd term).  I am also a member and Historian for the 8 & 40, Marion County Salon #126.

I met my husband, Bob, through the American Legion as he was also a member at Post 500, thanks to a couple of very dear friends who played match-makers!  We were married June 1, 2011 and have been enjoying our honeymoon ever since!

In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.
The vision of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion while becoming the premier service organization and foundation of every community providing support for our veterans, our military, and their families by shaping a positive future in an atmosphere of fellowship, patriotism, peace and security.
